Museum of Greek Children Art
The Museum of Greek Children’s Art was established in 1994 by the Association of its Friends as a non profit cultural institution dedicated to children’s artistic expression and creativity.
Recognized by both the Greek Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, the museum is also a member of the Network of Museums and Cultural Institutions of the Historic Centre of Athens.
The idea behind the museum’s creation emerged from the growing success of the Nationwide Children’s Art Contests organized by the Milies Museum on Mount Pelion between 1987 and 1994. Additional support came from the Museum of Cycladic Art, which hosted annual exhibitions featuring award winning artworks from the competitions. International exhibitions presented in Oslo, New York, and London also received enthusiastic recognition and further strengthened the vision for establishing a dedicated museum focused on children’s art.
The museum’s mission is to highlight the importance, originality, and artistic value of children’s creativity. Through its activities, it aims to preserve, study, and present children’s artworks while encouraging imagination, artistic development, and aesthetic education.
The Museum of Greek Children’s Art organizes educational programs, creative workshops, temporary exhibitions, and nationwide art competitions for children. At the same time, it collaborates with museums, foundations, and cultural institutions in Greece and abroad through exhibition exchanges and joint cultural initiatives, promoting children’s art on both a national and international level.
