Yiannis Tsarouchis Foundation Museum

Yiannis Tsarouchis Foundation Museum

Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the artistic legacy of the renowned Greek painter Yannis Tsarouchis, one of the most influential figures of modern Greek art.

The Foundation was established in 1981 by the artist himself and is housed in his former home and studio in Marousi, Athens. Designed by Tsarouchis in 1965, the building served both as his residence and creative workspace until his death in 1989.

The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the environment in which Tsarouchis lived and created his work. The ground floor originally functioned as his private residence, while the first floor and attic were used as his studio spaces and have now been transformed into exhibition areas. The Foundation has carefully preserved these rooms according to the artist’s original vision, allowing visitors to understand his creative process and artistic atmosphere.

Yannis Tsarouchis donated approximately 5,000 works, his personal archives, and his house to the Foundation. Today, the museum presents rotating exhibitions featuring paintings, drawings, stage designs, photographs, archival material, and personal objects connected to his life and work. Through these exhibitions, the Foundation highlights Tsarouchis’ contribution to painting, scenography, and Greek cultural identity, while also supporting research and educational activities related to his artistic legacy.

The Foundation also organizes educational programs, guided tours, publications, and collaborations with museums and cultural institutions in Greece and abroad. As one of the most important art foundations in Greece, it continues to promote contemporary artistic dialogue while preserving the work and vision of Yannis Tsarouchis for future generations.
