Archaeological Museum of Marathon
The Archaeological Museum of Marathon was built in 1975 with funding from the expatriate businessman Eugenios Panagopoulos.
In 2004, the building underwent renovation, the exhibition was redesigned, and a new protective shelter was constructed over the Middle Bronze Age tumulus cemetery as part of preparations for the Olympic Games.
The museum is located in the Vranas area of Marathon, on land expropriated by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The site also includes the preserved tumulus cemetery of the Middle Bronze Age (2000–1600 BC), covered by a protective structure, as well as the so-called Tomb of the Plataeans dating to the 5th century BC.
The permanent exhibition is organized in five rooms and a covered atrium, presenting finds that span a long chronological range from the Neolithic period through to the late Roman era.
