Hellenic Children's Museum
The Hellenic Children’s Museum is a non profit educational organization founded in Athens in 1987 by a group of young professionals who shared a common vision of supporting children’s development through learning, creativity, and play.
The museum’s mission is to help children grow into socially aware individuals who respect both their own uniqueness and the people around them.
Dedicated to children, families, educators, and school communities, the Hellenic Children’s Museum encourages young visitors to explore, discover, learn, and better understand the world through interactive experiences and collaborative activities. Its philosophy is based on experiential learning, creativity, and teamwork, promoting education in an engaging and inclusive environment.
The organization operates the Children’s Museum of Athens in collaboration with the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the City of Athens (OPANDA). The museum features a wide range of permanent and temporary interactive exhibitions inspired by science, technology, the environment, mathematics, language, arts, and everyday life. Designed primarily for children up to 12 years old, the museum offers hands on experiences that encourage imagination, experimentation, and active participation.
Visitors can explore themed exhibition spaces such as The Attic, Hello Pythagoras!, Maps, The Kitchen, Pet Care Clinic, The ABC of Nutrition, Bubbles, and the Museum of the Greek Alphabet, while younger children can enjoy specially designed play areas. Through play based activities, children are invited to use their senses, role play, create objects, solve problems, and discover how things work in a fun and educational way.
Beyond its exhibitions, the Hellenic Children’s Museum develops and implements educational programs for schools, families, teachers, parents, and groups with special needs, including refugees and vulnerable communities. The organization is also widely recognized for its long standing volunteer program, which has involved thousands of volunteers over the past decades and has received national recognition for its contribution to cultural education and social engagement.
Located on the ground floor of the Athens Conservatoire building in central Athens, the museum continues to offer children and families an inspiring environment where education, creativity, and cultural participation come together through interactive learning experiences.
