Historical Folklore and Natural History Museum of Kozani
The Historical, Folklore and Natural History Museum of Kozani was founded in 1969 and officially inaugurated on 10 October 1987
It was created by the Association of Letters and Arts of the Regional Unit of Kozani.
The museum brings together historical, ethnographic, and natural history collections that were initially established in the late 1960s and housed in various temporary locations around the city. After several relocations, the collections were eventually consolidated in a permanent building constructed between 1980 and 1983, with a later extension added in 1993 to accommodate its growing exhibits.
Today, the museum is organized into several thematic sections, including Natural History, Archaeology and Byzantine history, Modern history, and Folklore, which forms one of its most important components. Additional collections include a gallery of modern art, a stamp collection, and a radio collection, offering a broad overview of cultural, historical, and technological development.
The museum’s mission is the preservation and documentation of the region’s cultural heritage, combined with educational and interpretive activities for the public. Through its diverse collections, it provides visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the historical, social, and cultural identity of Kozani and its surrounding region.
