Archaeological Collection of Kozani
The Archaeological Collection of Kozani houses finds from across the wider region of the Kozani Prefecture, covering a long chronological span from prehistoric to Roman times. Its material is organized into two main groups.
The first group includes artifacts from donations, surface collections, and excavations acquired up to 1980, with the most important assemblage coming from the Classical cemetery of Kozani. The second group consists of material collected after 1980 through systematic research, including rescue and surface excavations in prehistoric settlements of the Yellow Lake Valley and the middle Aliakmonas River basin, as well as sites around the artificial Lake Polyfytos.
These finds represent everyday life, burial customs, and material culture across different historical periods, offering valuable insight into the long human presence in the region.
The collection is housed in a neoclassical building in Kozani and is part of the cultural infrastructure dedicated to the preservation, study, and presentation of the area’s archaeological heritage.
