Archaeological Museum of Palaiopolis

The Archaeological Museum of Paleopolis in Andros presents important finds from the excavations of the ancient city of Paleopolis, the historical capital of Andros.

Its collection includes sculptures, pottery, coins, and inscriptions covering a wide chronological range from the Archaic period to the Early Byzantine era.

The Archaeological Collection is housed in a newly built structure constructed in 1981 in the community of Paleopolis, funded by the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation. Although it is a relatively recent museum installation, the re-exhibition works are still in progress.

Among the most significant exhibits are the marble sculptural group of Pegasus with Bellerophon, an impressive marble lion used as a funerary monument, and inscribed marble plaques, including a hymn dedicated to the goddess Isis. A small statue of Artemis from the Hellenistic period is also displayed.

The museum highlights the long history of ancient Andros and the importance of Paleopolis as a major cultural center in antiquity.
