War Museum of Nafplio

The War Museum Nafplio Annex is housed in the historic building that accommodated the original Military School of Evelpidon from 1828 to 1934.

Established in 1988, the Nafplio branch of the War Museum is dedicated to the military and national history of modern Greece.
The museum’s permanent exhibition covers the historical period from the Greek Revolution of 1821 to the German invasion of Greece and the Battle of Crete in 1941. Through weapons, uniforms, relics, photographs, and works of art, visitors can explore important moments in modern Greek history.

Room A is dedicated to the establishment of the Military School of Evelpidon. Engravings and paintings transport visitors to the early years of the first higher military academy of the modern Greek state.

Room B focuses on the Greek Revolution of 1821. Weapons, traditional costumes, historical relics, and artworks illustrate the heroic struggle of the Greeks for freedom and independence.

Room C presents the Macedonian Struggle, featuring photographs, weapons, paintings, and uniforms from the period, highlighting the efforts of the Greeks to defend Macedonia during the early 20th century.

Room D is devoted to the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913, during which Greece expanded its borders and incorporated Macedonia, Crete, Ioannina, and the islands of the northern Aegean into the Greek state. Photographs and paintings depict the important military and naval campaigns of the era.

Room E is dedicated to the Greco-Italian War of 1940–1941. Uniforms, weapons, war relics, and a war flag from the period take visitors back to the time of Greece’s historic resistance against fascist Italy and the battles fought in the mountains of Pindos.

Room F presents the history of the Military School of Evelpidon through uniforms from different periods, photographs of the buildings that housed the academy, and historical material related to its students and graduates.

Room G focuses on the German invasion of Greece and the Battle of Crete in 1941. Uniforms, weapons, personal belongings, and photographs testify to the fierce battles fought by Greek forces against Nazi Germany.

The War Museum of Nafplio is an important cultural and educational institution that preserves the memory of Greece’s national struggles and the historical legacy of the Greek armed forces.
