Natural History Museum of the Aegean
The Museum of Natural History of the Aegean was founded in 1992 as a non-profit foundation and public benefit institution dedicated to the study of natural history and environmental preservation.
Located on the island of Samos, the museum plays an important role in promoting scientific research, education, and cultural development in the Aegean region.
The museum collaborates closely with the universities of Athens and Thessaloniki, receiving scientific support for its research activities and the preservation of important paleontological discoveries from the Mytilinii area of Samos. Its collections and exhibitions highlight the natural environment, biodiversity, and geological history of the Aegean islands.
Among the museum’s main goals are the promotion of environmental awareness, the support of scientific research in natural history, and the cultural enrichment of the eastern Aegean islands. The institution also encourages scientific and artistic achievement through awards granted to researchers and individuals active in the fields of natural history, environmental protection, arts, and literature.
The museum continues to expand its activities and facilities through ongoing excavations, the development of new exhibition halls, the enhancement of the “Sea Life” section, and the creation of future departments dedicated to entomology, history, and ethnology. At the same time, modern electronic technologies are being integrated to improve the educational experience and visitor information services.
