Thessaloniki Science Center NOESIS
The NOESIS Science Center and Technology Museum is a modern cultural, educational, and public benefit institution dedicated to promoting the understanding of science and technology among students and the general public.
Its origins date back to 1978, when the Technology Museum of Thessaloniki was founded as an association aiming to familiarize society with the natural sciences and the evolution of technology. In 2001, it was transformed into NOESIS, evolving into a more comprehensive science and technology center under the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation.
NOESIS has gained significant international recognition for its work, receiving awards from the European Network of Science Centres and Museums (ECSITE) and the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC), particularly for its programs supporting social inclusion and refugee integration. It is also actively involved in major international networks of science and technology museums.
Visitors to NOESIS can experience state-of-the-art screenings at the Digital Planetarium, the Cosmotheatre (large screen cinema), and the Virtual Reality Simulator, offering immersive educational experiences through modern audiovisual technology.
The Technology Museum includes three permanent exhibitions: Ancient Greek Technology, a unique collection covering technological achievements from prehistoric to Byzantine times; Technopark, an interactive space where visitors explore scientific principles through hands-on exhibits; and the Automobile Collection, showcasing the evolution of the automobile industry.
The center also features an amphitheater for conferences and events, a temporary exhibition hall, a library, and a digital production laboratory. Throughout the year, NOESIS organizes educational programs, summer activities for children, workshops, scientific talks, and public events in collaboration with academic and cultural institutions.
Today, NOESIS stands as one of Greece’s leading science and technology institutions, offering engaging educational experiences that combine knowledge, innovation, and entertainment for visitors of all ages.
