Hellenic Air Force Museum

Hellenic Air Force Museum

The Hellenic Air Force Museum is located at Dekeleia Air Base in Tatoi, near Athens.

It operates under the Hellenic Air Force General Staff and is dedicated to preserving, studying, and presenting the history and heritage of the Hellenic Air Force, as well as the broader story of aviation and the “spirit of flight” through the centuries.

The museum is both a military and technological institution, showcasing the evolution of aviation and the role of the Air Force in national history. Its collection includes aircraft, engines, uniforms, vehicles, photographs, documents, and other aviation-related artifacts that illustrate the development of Greek military aviation and its participation in major historical events.

A significant part of the museum’s activity is the restoration and preservation of historic aircraft, including efforts in aviation archaeology, such as the recovery of World War II aircraft wrecks from various locations in Greece. These projects require specialized technical knowledge and are often carried out in cooperation with military personnel and experts.

The museum also places strong emphasis on education, aiming to engage younger visitors and the general public through guided tours, exhibitions, and interactive presentations. Visitors can observe restoration work and learn about the technological and historical aspects of aviation.

Future plans include expanding the collection, enriching educational programs, and developing the surrounding area of Dekeleia Air Base into a broader aviation and technology park, making the museum an even more significant cultural and educational destination.
