Averoff Gallery Metsovo

The Averoff Art Gallery is a museum of modern Greek art located in Metsovo, in the region of Ioannina.

It has been operating since August 1988 and was founded by Evangelos Averoff-Tositsas, who aimed to create a distinguished art gallery in his hometown. The museum’s permanent collection features representative works by some of the most important Greek painters, engravers, and sculptors of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Gyzis, Lytras, Volanakis, Iakovidis, Parthenis, Maleas, Galanis, Moralis, Chatzikyriakos-Ghikas, and Tetsis, among others.

The gallery is housed in a specially designed three-story building constructed to accommodate the collection. It was later expanded in 1994 with a new wing, adding modern exhibition and support spaces. Over time, the collection has grown significantly and the museum has developed a wide range of cultural and educational activities, including a children’s workshop, temporary exhibitions, academic conferences, guided tours, and creative programs.

Today, more than 30 years after its establishment, the Averoff Art Gallery has become an important cultural landmark, attracting thousands of visitors annually from all over Greece and abroad.
