Folklore Museum of Dolichi
The Folklore Museum of Dolichi is located about 100 meters west of the central square of the village and has been operating since 2007.
It is housed in a building that formerly belonged to the Agricultural Cooperative of Dolichi and was once used by a private tenant as a dairy workshop. In 1998, the building was included in the LEADER II programme and funded for its conversion into a folklore museum. Since then, it has been leased and managed by the Cultural Association of Dolichi “I Tripolitida” under a symbolic annual contract.
The museum consists of three exhibition rooms, sanitary facilities, and is equipped with a security alarm system. Its collections include objects used in the everyday life of the people of Dolichi, such as household utensils, tools for wool processing, and items related to traditional agricultural activities. Photographs and small archaeological finds are also displayed, offering a glimpse into the local history and way of life.
More recently, Byzantine material from the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, provided by the 7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities of Larissa, has also been added to the museum’s collection. Efforts by the Cultural Association are ongoing to further enrich the museum with additional Byzantine artefacts, including icons, church vessels, and crosses, as well as finds from the archaeological site of “Kastrí Dolichis” and material from Ancient Dolichi.
The Folklore Museum of Dolichi was created through the dedication and volunteer work of the members of the Cultural Association “I Tripolitida” and continues to operate under the supervision of its elected board, serving as an important centre for the preservation of local heritage and memory.
