Archaeological Museum of Florina

Archaeological Museum of Florina

The Archaeological Museum of Florina is an important cultural institution that collects and presents findings from across the Florina regional unit, covering a wide chronological span from the Neolithic period to Byzantine times.

Its aim is to highlight the historical development of the region and human activity through time.

The museum is housed in a building whose construction began in 1964 and was gradually adapted to accommodate its growing collections. Its exhibitions include archaeological finds from excavations and chance discoveries in the area, such as Roman-era sculptures, funerary and votive stelae, ceramics, metal objects, and mosaics.

The display is organised thematically and chronologically, illustrating the evolution of life in the region through prehistoric, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. Particular emphasis is placed on everyday life, religious practices, and the social organisation of the communities that once inhabited Florina.

Today, the museum serves as a centre for research and the promotion of the region’s cultural heritage, contributing to public education and cultural awareness.
