Aegean Maritime Museum

Aegean Maritime Museum

The Aegean Maritime Museum is located in a traditional 19th-century Cycladic house in the center of Mykonos Town, at the historic area of Tria Pigadia.

It is one of the first museums in Greece dedicated to preserving and studying Greek maritime history.

Aegean Maritime Museum is housed in a carefully restored building and its spaces—along with the surrounding garden have been designed as a unified exhibition environment. The collection is divided into indoor and outdoor displays, offering visitors a complete view of Greece’s naval heritage.

Inside the museum, visitors can see ship models, historical nautical documents, engravings, maps, ancient artifacts, and a rare collection of coins featuring maritime imagery. These exhibits highlight the long naval tradition of the Aegean region and Greece’s relationship with the sea across different historical periods.

The museum’s library is preserved at the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive (ELIA), part of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation (MIET) in Athens.

In the outdoor garden area, exhibits include the original mechanism of the Armenistis Lighthouse, funerary steles, maritime instruments, and traditional naval tools.
