Archaeological Museum of Mytilene

Archaeological Museum of Mytilene

The Archaeological Museum of Mytilene (new building) is a modern museum space inaugurated in 1999, dedicated to presenting the history of Lesbos during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Its exhibition focuses on everyday life, social organisation, and the artistic development of the island, a time when it experienced significant economic and cultural prosperity.

The galleries display impressive mosaic floors, wall paintings, sculptures, and various artefacts from luxurious Roman villas. The exhibits depict scenes from mythology, daily life, and religious practices, offering a comprehensive view of the ancient world of Mytilene.

The exhibition is complemented by explanatory texts, maps, and reconstructions that help visitors better understand the culture and historical development of ancient Lesbos.
