Military Museum of Kilkis
The Military Museum of the Balkan Wars of Kilkis is located just outside the city, on a pine-covered hill at its southwestern edge.
t is housed in a single-storey building at the top of the pine forested Hill of the Monument of the Battle of Kilkis, at an altitude of 280 meters. The museum is operated under the responsibility of the 71st Airmobile Brigade “Pontos” (601st A/M Infantry Battalion).
The main focus of the museum is the three-day Battle of Kilkis–Lachanas against the Bulgarian forces (19–21 June 1913), one of the most decisive battles of the Second Balkan War. Its exhibits include documents from the period 1912–1913, personal belongings of officers who took part in the battle, uniforms, weapons (such as mortars, shells, artillery pieces, etc.), and regimental flags.
The exhibition is organized around clear thematic sections, aiming both to present the course of the battle in an accessible way and to highlight key aspects of its historical context. This thematic structure helps visitors form a more complete understanding of the events and significance of the Battle of Kilkis.
The Municipality of Kilkis also organizes the educational initiative “Morning Historical Walks” as part of the annual “Eleftheria” celebrations. Each year, primary school students visit the museum, where guided tours and direct engagement with the exhibits help them develop a more experiential connection with the modern history of the region.
